How do you know its causing a short ??

I’m getting an almost fully bright image and according to QHY this is consistent with conduction across pins, most likely related to moisture.  Want to tidy this up in case it’s contributing to the problem

From what I have read you need  "Conformal coating" to protect the connections when in situations similar to yours. But I may not be 100% as your a dealing with sensor so care is to be taken

Thanks Andy, that looks the ticket.

I'm also looking to replace the little dessicant pack that was stuck inside it.  Its a very thin strip, not the usual beads in a porous bag.

How did you clean them Adam? I would have definitely broke something!

I followed the advice above and used a combination of a toothbrush, cotton buds - dust free ones that came in a photograph cleaning kit - and a cocktail stick, with some alcohol lens cleaner.  These arent fragile pins ( having said that I havent tried the camera again to see if it's working yet! )
