She’s a keeper! First light was going well but the clouds are fighting back now. Incredible view of Mars at 280x! Waiting to try and do some imaging at the mo, never tried Mars before.

Well, a bit of good fortune and a large heavy box was delivered today! I’m now a very pleased owner of a TEC140ed!

No you buy them frequently.  Regards Andrew

Well the clouds have finally won, so time to pack up.

I couldn't resist another sweep visually though... so in goes the 36mm Hyperion.

1st to the Pleiades - yep, still there and looking good!

Then to M33, something there...maybe.

Double cluster quickly....one of my favourites!

Clouds and murk are too much now.

Not much of a first light report, but I will process the Mars captures as and when I can.

All in all, I'm going to enjoy this scope!

One thing i like about mine is how quick it cools down outside to reach ambient temperature ; much quicker than any other scope i've owned.

Oil spaced optics are better in that regard. I do take care with mine in that regard as the middle element is quite fragile, so i need to make

sure its not exposed to any big quick changes in temperature.

Looking good Jon, I'd have felt really guilty if I'd bought it and deprived you of the pleasure 😂

Well, I've been playing with my Mars video clips and here's a first light result.

I'm not a planetary imager by any means but thought I'd have a go. It's not the best, but I got to video 4 and thought I'll be here for days trying to get the best, they're probably all very similar!

I used a ZWO 178MC, Televue 2.5x powermate and firecapture to capture the frames, followed by autostakkert, PI and a bit of lightroom.

The conditions weren't great - put it this way, I wouldn't have bothered trying to do some DSO work, it wasn't that kind of night.

Anyway, pleased I suppose with the Mars image - it certainly looked good visually, if a little wobbly.

I'm sure given the right conditions I could get a better result.

Edit - I had to use a diagonal as I didn't have another way to couple the powermate to the collet on the focuser.
