mojolomjl
Hi again, many thanks for all your warm welcomes. Still waiting for the sky to clear but in the meantime could anyone tell me if it is possible to put your scope in the loft and view through an open velux window. I think I have read that you should not site your scope in a bedroom and view through an open window because of the heat difference, but as a loft is not heated would this be ok. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.Regards,Maurice.
GazOC
The loft would have to be very close to the outside temperature for the views not to be affected.
TheThing
You will still get heat pockets rising from from the building below and, possibly, from the roof itself if there has been any warmth in the day.
GazOC
Yep, it would have to be VERY well insulated.
Robd
On the other hand Pluto did install a mount in his attic see http://stargazerslounge.com/index.php/topic,22619.0.html and the subsequent update.Rob
Jeff RV
Here's another couple of loft versions, although the latter may not suit.http://www.djcash.demon.co.uk/astro/scopes/loft/loft.htmlhttp://www.hiddenloft.com/obs.htmJeff.
acey
It's not ideal but better than not using it at all. As for the amount of heat turbulence - only one way to find out. My first view of Mars was through an open window - it was a bit like looking at something in an aquarium but it thrilled me nonetheless.Andrew
