Tracking mount

10-7

Recommended Posts

What is a good tracking mount to start with for  astrophotography? My main goal is that it be portable and reasonably priced. I was looking at the heq 6 pro but that's  at the top end of my budget for the mount. I'm sure this question has been asked quite a bit! Thanks in advance and clear sky's

The Skywatcher HEQ5 (Orion Sirius in the US) is probably the top end of what is reasonably portable - its a very competent mount and is portable.

Even lighter and cheaper but with much less load carrying capacity and functionality is the Skywatcher Star Adventurer

Yes the HEQ5 is a nice mount.. had one for years. I find my NEQ6 too heavy now to cart about. Of course it does depend what you are putting on the mount that will need to be considered with load capacity. The HEQ5 is recommended max 11kg for imaging.

Portable is quite a personal requirement and means different things to different users.  What size medium refractor were you looking at.

Red cat, zenith 73 around that size I don't know much about refractors or good size. My goal is DSO and some planetary photography any recommendations is much appreciated

I have the HEQ5 pro mount and just added up the telescope, eyepiece and DSLR camera weights to be about 8.5Kgs and it can handle that fine. How any vibration during tracking would affect stacking images etc, no idea I am afraid
