Who would buy this scope

The new Meade EXT LS

I'm interested in who would spend £1299 (S&N Feb issue) on this small scope. It seems a bit over the top on tech, expect to see it on the Gadget Show. Almost like a gimicky prototype made for fun by an R&D Dept with nothing much to do.

Maybe a future add-on is a camera transmitter and remote control so you can see the image on a 42" plasma TV in a warm lounge.

I wouldn't buy anything Meade period, the quality of the any electronics on them can be truly shocking......this scope is begging to break :laughing2:

Looks good and it definatly better than the ETX range... But £1200!!! That is outragous! Might aswell spend the extra on the LX90 range and get the larger apature

Yes, I wouldn't! Even for those happy to purchase Meade, as someone has already indicated, the electronic releability would be a disaster that would surely happen sooner or later. Regards, Paul

Its a strange one, on one hand the specs look OK for someone who wants do to a bit of casual astronomy/ basic imaging with no hassle but that type of person isn't going to want to spend £1300 on the scope alone.

As someone else has said it looks like something R&D would have knocked together as a proof of concept project rather than an actual product.
