Mars white limb - real or illusion

I'm increasingly convinced that a 'white limb' on Mars is not a processing artefact.

What do folks think?

My observation is that its doesn't appear on similar targets or follow the whole of the limb. Look at some recent SGL images (I know some people process this feature out) and these from NASA:

I would agree that a subtle thin light edge is seen, however what I hate and can't get rid of is the thick bright ringing effect around the whole bright edge of Mars. This is definitely an artifact caused by diffraction and poor seeing jitter.

You can see it clearly in my Mars images posted on this site.
