Has anyone here observed the Maunder crater?

Recommended Posts

I've just been learning about this crater, named after a Northern Ireland lady, Annie Maunder.

It says it is visible due to libration of the moon, has anyone here seen it?

Thanks!

Adam.

Not for many years. It's a challenging object even with a favourable libration.

Thanks, good to hear it is at least doable!  Does the libration effect occur every month to allow it to be seen?

If it was clear tonight you should just be able to glimpse the edge of it.

John, thanks for this, struggling to find it on maps myself.  It's going to be clear tomorrow fingers crossed, could I catch the edge of it then too, or does it not work like that?

Looked at tomorrow nights map and it’s not showing as visable 😢

👎 well at least I have an idea of where it is now, and can look in the general area.  Thanks for pointing that out, your diagram helped me find it.

Never paid much attention to this crater but will definitely try to observe it next time it’s visable. 👍🏻
