Topic for a rainy day. 😁😁😁

While perusing the forum this moring came acroos the different terms people use for an eyepiece.

I always refere to an eyepiece as well an EYEPIECE, but others do quite often call them lenses (incorrect spelling) although a lens is what you attach to a camera or another name for the objective. Then there is the American ocular thing which just simply irritates.

All this is quite unimportant but just curious if it matters to anyone or bugs them.

I used to get quite bad (hay-fever related) conjunctivitis as a kid...
I was examined at the local eye-hospital by a specialist. They also
tested my eyesight... And found the beginnings of my myopia! 😛

The eminent eye-surgeon pondered... shrugged: "Oh... We'll give
him a GLASS"?! At a tender age, I thought he meant Glass Eye! 🙀

Anyway, back to the old Spy Glass... m'hearties etc. etc. 🤣

I have a strange tendency to type an "e" on the end of words when I know full well there is no such "e"!!  A typical one is "bothe".  Silly isn't it???!!!  I also tend to type words or at least letter pairs, backwards.  Probably slight dyslexia (I have to type that word extremely slowly!!).

Ah yes... "To E" or "Not to "E"?  Concord versus Concorde etc. 😛

The French have fairly "sensible" (teasing) words for Optics...
except perhaps for Lens = Lentille! (Soup anyone? Or Soupe?) 🙃

Reminded re. the Jewellers "Loupe" (I see it has a "e" at the end)!
But Loup is a Wolf! Then of course Lunettes... "little moons"!?! 🥳

What is this thing "eyepiece"? lol.

I have a feeling it's what that other group of astronomers - the observers - use on their telescopes to see an image, but I could be wrong!  🤣

I had an uncle in the 60's who had one. He liked taking it out when us kids was around. I'm not sure if it was the glass eye that always got me, or the empty eye socket?

He was a peculiar character!
