Tracking mount for dslr astrophotography

Recommended Posts

Just a thought, the weight of the lens is enough that I would be looking to mount the lens on the tripod and not the camera, just thinking the strain on the lens mount may cause damage , I have the same lens and 2 Nikon bodies and always use a lens mount on my tripod for this reason. Not needed when hand held though as you are supporting the whole thing, sorry if I am teaching you to suck eggs though😉

You state the obvious. The sigma lens has its own tripod mount. Yes, I would mount the lens and not the camera on the tripod / tracking mount. In much the same way as with using a telescope. 😊

I just picked up an ioptron cem25 for my canon 7D with 100-400 plus autoguider and have been happy with it so far. Light and portable and quick to set up. Tracks well without guiding, and with auto guiding am getting round stars at 10+ minutes right out of the box.
