OAG Guidecam Position? It's Not Obvious.....

Recommended Posts

Recently switched to an OAG at 1400mm with a LodeStar 2.
Thought I'd aid guidestar selection by setting up a FOV frame in my planetarium.
My scope just happens to present a right way up, laterally inverted image in my DSLR eyepiece.

Mounting the guidecam above the DSLR adjacent the upper long side of the DSLR sensor gave the most freedom of slewing without anything hitting.

So logic said place  the guidecam frame on the top north side of the DSLR frame:

Centred Vega in the DSLR frame with magnified LiveView, SYNCh'd, then slowly slewed SOUTH, to send Vega UP into the guidescope frame on the planetarium.
Searched around that area, but no sign of Vega on the guidecam.
Messed about in this vein for several hours, until I accidently slewed NORTH, and Vega appeared in the guidescope image !

So I moved the box 180 degrees and trimmed the distance of the box from the centre :

I shouldn't have been confused, a camera lens presents an inverted image, if memory serves.

So here it is on Caldwell 7 NGC 2403, the whole rig rotated 65 degrees:

Now you know,
