or would I be better with a skywatcher 80ed/72ed to start with

I think that is the same scope as RVO are now selling under there own name...

Magbe not as there’s is a 72mm, so ignore me, but seems good spec for the money....comes with an optical report too... 👍

Looked the listings for this scope but couldn’t make up my mind. Just a basic fpl51 doublet but might be OK though. 🤔

BTW perhaps ypu should change the title of this thread to SVBONY SV503 80ED F7 as most will think a Svbony 503  is some adapter not a scope.

I thought at first it was a new camera they had released, as they do a range of SV105, 205, and 305....

I can't say about the scope, but I have several SVBONY lenses and both the SV105 and SV305 cameras.  They aren't top of the line, but are certainly value for the money.  Also, I must mention, that in my dealings with SVBONY customer service, I have always been pleased with the result and found them to be reasonable and cooperative.  That is, dealing with SVBONY directly, without a 3rd party.

I’ve just finished an extended loan of one and my review of it will be on the SVBONY website soon.
In some aspects, I actually preferred using it to my skywatcher Ed72, particularly the built-in field rotator making for easy target-framing. It’s very capable both photographically and visually and I managed to take a dozen or so images which I was happy with.
On paper it’s SPL-51 glass might sound less impressive than the SPL-53 found elsewhere, but i reckon in 95% of cases, observing conditions and poor processing skills (like mine) would be the major limiting factors rather than whether the glass is one sort or the other.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else had got there hands on one of these and has anything to share about the scope being used in action for viewing? Not fussed about the imaging side, purely interested in the observing side at the moment...

I have the SvBony SV503 ED80 f/7 Refractor. It's a really nice scope. Used along with the Baader Fringe Killer Filter, Chromatic Aberration is unnoticeable. For the price it is a very nice little refractor.

They're on Amazon at the moment with the 20% off voucher = £400. A decent price for an f7 80ED if the scope's as good as people are saying.

I used a field flattener in mine, no point in not using one for astrophotography. It is the recommended 0.8x one by svbony.

My setup is the SV503 80ED, Skywatcher Star Adventurer 2i or Celestron AVX mount, Canon EOS T6i (750D) camera ... Frames stacked with DSS, minimal image processing. Irvine Ca is around Bortle 6.

These were taken last week with the same setup (Svbony SV503, Canon EOS T6i) but on my Celestron AVX GoTo mount which is a bit beefier. Any questions will be welcome.

Irvine is Bortle 6 so we have some major light pollution. I used an Optolong L-enh filter to cut down on the glare.
