OK then, seems like the polished reverse side of the primary is Skywatchers new vibe after all. It would be cool to know why? it seems like more work than just grinding the back of the mirror flat with the frosted finish.

Im not a specialist in this Mirror-production.  But my cnc-woodworking head lets me immediately think of the flat surfaces (on the back of the material) i need when “clamping” my material with vacuum suction cups to work on it.   Maybe, but im not sure.

Very nice. I think I'll upgrade to a foam shroud 🙂

forgot to say thank you for a great video. I do like my fabric shroud I made but I do think I am going to try this with foam. I think it maybe better and some else I don't need to set up. thanks again for a great video

Excellent video Chris, now an upcoming experiment for the grand kids!

Thanks Gerry. You must be a great grandad (as in good grandad, not the parent of a grandad). I bet you've instilled them with an appreciation for science, I remember you doing microscope experiments with them a while back.

Thanks Chris, yes we have a lot of fun exploring with the microscope and telescope among other things. We rock hunt and climb, watch nature quite a bit- the eldest now has an interest in geology and the middle one loves animals. Btw last night I was letting our puppy have some time outside before bed and I saw the Milky Way shine through an outdoor light and a TV- after I put him in I shut it all off and observed an extremely bright Milky Way with what seemed like more structure around Cygnus and the rift- what a sight!

I love lawnchair observing lol!

I got took my best Mars image with the Heritage 150p the other night.

What an absolutely superb video, Chris! Without doing a spoiler, the way you build up to the finale it is very well executed and informative.

Great video Chris and a great result. That really is an amazing image for such a modest scope, and with a helical focuser! Nice display of the polar cap, various features and limb brightening (I assume that’s what it is, not clouds?). You must have been chuffed!

Excellent stuff Chris! Not totally surprised as it is a really capable scope, but great to see what it can do in the right hands. I might be tempted into a bit of imaging Mars myself! 😱😱

Cheers Stu! and Excellent! Do it, do it, do it ;)
