Pixinsight and Dark Nebulosity

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd share this video by Adam Block

It could come in handy for anyone struggling with dark nebulosity in areas like the Iris Nebula, I know a few have imaged this recently.

Adam Block is very good at explaining what processes in PI do. He is clearly targeting his videos to the more advanced users who want to understand how processes work.

With exponential transformation you always have to be very careful not to stretch noise. The process can easily result in a noisy and mottled background.

Best to do it once noise is reduced enough.

It occurred to me that it's a lot like using curves but in more of a set way. I suppose once you know what ET is doing then you can replicate it with mask and curves I suppose but in a more versatile way.
