Thanks Dave but that won't work for me, I only have square windows 😂

I just had a 'flashback' of BBC-TV Play School (1964-1988).

"Let's take a look through the..."
"...arched window" ..."round window" ..."square window"

In 2002 a new series and a diamond window was added.

Search “inclinometer” or “digital clinometer”, there are lots of fairly low cost options. Attach one to a stick and look along it.. then read when the little box says. You can also get plastic ones for school science projects too.

A compass clinometer will give you compass direction and elevation. The particular one I have (for work) is a Suunto tandem. I wondered if it would work at night, so I shone a red bicycle lamp on the dial, which illuminated the viewfinder.
