Comet Atlas Y4

Recommended Posts

I tried my hand at imaging Atlas Y4  again last night. It was low down in the NE amongst the sky glow. Rather a damp squib now but there are reports of some brightening again. It shows as multiple targets now in Sky Safari but seems to show only a single nucleus in my image.

The tail had a strong green colour but I seem to have killed that in processing!

Lets hope Swan delivers more!

And here is a rough and ready gif animation. The colour is back but no idea how to fix the background stars in the frame using PS so it's jerky! Took me hours to create this :)

This is about 15 minutes of motion.

This is interesting, from NASA's Stereo HI-1 Satellite Camera showing Comet Atlas Y4 passing the sun.

What I found most interesting however was that Mercury too has a "tail" like a comet! Who knew? :)
