M74 - last one, I promise...

I'm really pleased how this has turned out, it's certainly taken quite a while to finish it. Over the last two days I've reprocessed over and over to try and see what works. Today I started afresh and I now have a good work flow going. All of the processing was done in PixeInsight LE after DSS had done it's thing.

The details are:

16 X 300secs at ISO800

59 X 300secs at ISO1600

1 X 600scecs at ISO800

8 X 720secs at ISO800

Of all those, DSS stacked 7hr 48mins worth - it didn't like a few of them. The equipment used for collecting all of the above:

Canon 400D through an Orion XT8 8" Reflector mounted on an EQ6 Syntrek

Autoguided with SPC900NC through a ST80

stuff learned:

The more data the better - can never have too much data.

Slowly slowly with the processing (loads of data makes the processing easier).

It's really cold outside at night in winter in the UK.

I hope you like it.

cheers

Sam

Your tenacity has paid off Sam. You now have a splendid image of 74. It's a mean little beast, and I can understand your needing to work hard on it. You got there though. Well done. Perseverance is a great asset to have.

Ron. :thumbright: :salute:

Good work LB - that's a stunning shot which I would certainly be proud of.

Just ignore Pete, or the 'DSLR kid', as he is more affectionately known to some of us. No offence Pete :) .

Cheers and Happy New Year to all at SGL.

I was coming to LB's "defence" with my " Why ? :p " I thinks DSLR's make excellent tools for imaging...

So no offence intended and certainly none taken Mel :) ....

"The DSLR Kid" eh..... hmmmmm..... hasn't got the same ring to it as the Milky Bar kid...

Billy (the Kid) .....
