A Revelation - 42mm 2 inch eyepiece

Recommended Posts

Recently bought this ( I suppose fairly modest) 2 inch ep  and a 2 inch diagonal and it has been a revelation to me! I’m really impressed by the wide, clear views. Last night I had a short window of opportunity before cloud rolled in as it was becoming properly dark about 11.30. I’ve always had to hunt around a little to find the Hercules cluster but last night I just pointed my XLT 120 at where I thought it should be looked through the eyepiece and it fairly leapt out at me: obviously small but so clear and contrasty.

Im sure this is a common experience but new to me and I’m looking forward to seeing what else it reveals!

Hi Rob,

The Revelation is a nice eyepiece for low power views. I have one too and it's great just to cruise around the sky taking in the views.

A little later in the night, or in a month or so when Cygnus has risen a bit higher, take a look at the area around Gamma Cygni, or Sadr (sometimes called Sadir), the middle star of the Cross asterism..just stunning, with so many faint stars popping into view.. you're looking right into the Milky Way here!👍
