Is that the 212 or 312 version.

ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  John

This is in fact the 372ย Astronomy, it has a modular Vixen GP head (basically an EQ5/HEQ5),ย details here...ย https://www.berlebach.de/en/?bereich=details&id=179

It's a variant of the 312 Astronomy, which has a fixed 3/8" head, details here...ย https://www.berlebach.de/en/?bereich=details&id=175

As I understand it (from when I did some research a few weeks back), the Reports come in 4x2, 3x2, 2x2 and 1x2 variants, which vary in max height (4 being the tallest), but also the "x" can be "1" (fixed 3/8" head) or "7" (modular heads), so you have 472, 412, 372, 312, 272, 212, 172 and 112... easy ehย ๐Ÿค”

There are also the same (mostly) in non-astronomy variants, which are significantly cheaper, but don't have the spread stopper or accessory tray, plus some variants with adjustable geared centre columns.

The 3xx series seemed to offer the best height range and max load capacityย for me. The reason I chose the 372 over the 312, is that I already have an adaptor for converting M10 (EQ5/HEQ5) to 3/8", so I gain the flexibility to maybe put that class of mount on it (or changing the head) and also that adaptor gives an extra 1.5" of clearance (like a very mini extension)... the adaptor is this one BTW...ย https://www.firstlightoptics.com/alt-azimuth/astro-essentials-3-8-photo-adapter-for-heq5-az5-tripod.html. Berlebach also do their own version of this adaptor, but the Astro Essentials one is well made and very solid.

One final snippet which I wasn't aware of, is that the accessory trays for the Uni 28 and Report Astronomy seem to be exactly the same, as I was able to use the Uni 28 tray on my report. I don't routinely use these trays, so have kept one its box for now.

Hope that helps.

One additional benefit of the two Berlebach tripods in our shared office/craft room, is that my partner has actually commented that she "quite likes" the wooden tripods with telescopes compared to the "ugly metal ones"ย ๐Ÿ‘

Might see if I can move the grab and go setup into the lounge, see how that goes downย ๐Ÿคฃ

Helpful write-up @HollyHound.

i managed to pick up a non-Astro Berlebach Report 312 in a sale last summer. I bought the spreader separately. I use it with the tray that came with my Berlebach Planetย - as you say, they are interchangeable.

Interesting... just been checking the whole range of other "inserts" for the Report tripod range, and there's a variety of photographic heads, vertical columns (manual and geared) as well as all the astronomy heads...

It's a really nice modular systemย ๐Ÿ‘

The Berlebach website is a great place to get lost in for an hour or so. I'm sure that after a few minutes I can't smell all that lovely wood!ย ย ๐Ÿ™‚

They have so much paraphernalia - much of it is a mystery to me, e.g.:

Here is mine. Sadly virtually unused apart from a Kielder Starcamp a few years ago (just checked and it was 2015).

C11 and NEQ6 has now gone so ย decisions on its future need to be made.ย

Well I ordered a Report tripod from Berlebach earlier this week but hadnโ€™t heard anything about shipping so went to their contact page only to find a message that they are closed for โ€œcompany holidaysโ€ until the 17th August soย it looks like it will beย nearly a month before I get my tripod. Forgot about the fact that many German companies shut down at this time of year

Just received a delivery notice from DPD saying it will be delivered today. Nothingย from Berlebach at all which is a bit odd. ๐Ÿค”

Still showing the same the same message on the Berlebach site though.

My one and only Berlebach product..IMG_20160215_140501182_HDR.thumb.jpg.543e6d13cb1442a53eb058a2eed30e89.jpg.bcdc8de136e03f0c7cea34104c27da49.jpg

..spreader tray, from Astroboot some years ago. Sadly, the ED103s and Vixen GP are no longer with me, sacrificed on the altar of getting my FS128 in 2017.. but I still have the tray on the home built wooden tripod shown above..

I got my Berlebach Uni 28 from Astroboot. I recently bought the spreader stopper from an SGL member so I don't tend to use the wooden tray much.

Your tripod looks great Dave

Thanks John.

I used to buy a few bits from AB (even a Tal 100RS at a good price once!), but since they went "offshore" I haven't found them selling much of anything I'd be interested in TBH.

The tripod is a good one, built by David Gibbons (or Gibson?) who is a great guy and used to post more on SGL about 8-10 years back.

I bought a complete scope from him about then and he kindly threw in the tripod for ยฃ20! It's served me well ever since..writing this now, it struck me that I've kept this tripod for far longer than any other Astro items I've ever owned!๐Ÿ˜œ Hopefully my FS128 will stay with me even longer though๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜

It's fixed height, but solid as a rock, and I deal with observing height differences by using my Geoptik observing chair which I had as a Christmas gift from my daughters a couple of years ago..it's this one:

With the screw thread though, it would imply that it's reusable... gotta love the efficiencyย ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
