Update on 18 March 2020

In the light of the unknown duration of special measures during the Covid-19 epidemic, the decision has reluctantly been made to postpone the NWAF to 2021

The North West Astronomy Festival is back, with a new date and a new venue.

https://nwastrofest.co.uk/

The North West of England's only major Astronomy Festival has moved to The Engine Rooms at Birchwood, Warrington, WA3 6YN (convenient for M6 / M62)

and has a new date Saturday 24th – Sunday 25th October 2020

I enjoyed this a couple of years ago and its even better placed now, so will definitely be there with possibly three others. So there'll be at least four folk there. Should be good!

It is unfortunate that it falls the weekend before IAS (and the weekend after Kelling star aprty) two of the bigger events in the UK astro calendar.

I have been a few times in the past so it would be nice to visit again. There are a few members from SGL I would like to meet so I will PM them nearer the time.

Better than clashing with one or the other though! :)

I got a really poor CSE in maths in 1978, yet despite that, there's at least seven of us so far!   Sorry!  :icon_scratch: I forgot to include myself! 7+1=8

I worked at Birchwood until June 2019 and it is only 20 minutes away from me so I shall try to make it this year. From memory I think it is Bortle 7/8 so not good for visual.

Announcement from the NWAF committee

It is very sad for us to say this but in view of the escalating Covid-19 situation, the North West Astronomy Festival management committee have reluctantly concluded that it is in everyone's best interest that we re-schedule the Festival to 2021.

We have made huge progress in planning the event and as a team we are well positioned to work towards an even better Festival in 2021.

We would like to thank everyone for their support so far, especially the astronomy societies who have been so keen, and the wonderful speakers and traders who had agreed to come along.

We will be back in touch as soon as things settle down. In the meantime, watch for updates on our website www.nwastrofest.co.uk and via social media.”
