COMPLETED - Meade 14" ACF F10 for sale

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've decided with a very heavy heart to sell my Meade 14" ACF F10 OTA; it is just not getting the use that I expected it to in my Bortle 4/5 skies.  It is a superb telescope with Feather Touch focuser for rough focus of the mirror and a Moonlite powered motor focus I fitted at prime focus.  I know that one day I will regret this when I move out to a place with darker skies when it will come into its own. But for now in my current skies I just cannot justify keeping it for the use it gets.  I bought the scope off of SGL user a year ago and it is a fine instrument indeed.

I will sell it with the Moonlite for £2700 or without it for £2200 cash on collection or Bank Transfer.  This is a £5700 telescope brand new.  This includes a heavy duty dew shield, the original Losmandy bar and Bob's Knobs fitted.  Gauging interest on SGL before putting  on to ABS.  Scope must be collected, it is far too heavy and delicate to post.  If you want to to get it couriered you can arrange that.  I don't mind meeting up within reasonable distance from Nottingham.  I have original box and packing materials.

I will update this post with more close-up pictures tomorrow when I can get the roof off of the observatory since today it is far too windy in the storm Ciara.

Note:  This is a BIG and HEAVY telescope.  It must be permanently mounted in an observatory on a beefy mount it is fine on my MESU and will be great on soemthing like an EQ8.

I know I will regret this........  It will be a corker in darker skies.

Clear skies, Steve

More Pics to come.

Darn it!  I just brought one last week after a long wait and hunt.   Still waiting for it to arrive.   Otherwise I would have snapped this up!

Send it back?

It's taken over a week and cost 170 euro to send from Sweden in a pallet.   But, if it arrives bent or broken, I'll come and get yours!

I'm sure I remember you purchasing this.  I was tempted by it at the time myself.  Sorry to see you letting go of it so soon.

It's lovely but it is too big for my skies, I can't get the benefit from it.  My C925 is as good in my skies.

Fortunately, I already have one of these 14" ladies, we got together last summer. When I first lay my eyes on her, and she lay her big eye on me, she commanded me to build her a separate obsy and to put her on a mount on her own (you can her looking out in my cover photo). I have to admit that we have so far not had many nights together with good enough seeing for her long reaching eye, but when those special nights come, and I take off the top, she absorbs all the photons in the sky.

Your counter-weight bar made me laugh - did you raid the local gym? Maybe that is the actual weight limit of a Mesu mount - the number of weights you can put on the bar....

Yep Gym weights. It works well but I’m at the limit on the MESU with all this lot on it.

For visual I prefer my 12” Dob Olly.

@gorann I considered building a separate obs for it on a separate mount  However, it still does not change the fact that we rarely get skies that can usefully benefit from such a large aperture where i live and have to mount this scope permanently.  As you know, it is too heavy to keep taking on and off the mount to make it portable.

I know where you live and have been there many times, I dated a Swedish girl there a long time ago 😍The skies are dark when you get out of town, so in your case the Meade 14" is a superb scope.

I've sold it :). At this aperture, a very specialised scope with a smaller pool of potential buyers compared to smaller scopes.

I'm quite sad to have let it go but it was too big for my skies and I had to be realistic.  The buyer has much darker skies than me and it will be superb for him.  Especially at Mars opposition later in the year.
