The star called VY Canis Majoris, a hypergiant star located 5,000 light years from earth and is considered to be the largest star discovered in the universe. Assuming the upper size limit of 2100 solar radii, light would take more than 8 hours to travel around the star's circumference.

Light takes about 1 second to go around the Earth 7 times.

Gosh! That's closer than Sirus. Yep! It's going to be a memorable light show :(

Do you mean Sirius, Rosenella? I thought it was "only" a few light years away - much less than 5,000.

Yes, sorry, I meant Sirius, which is 2.6 parsecs (8.6 light-years) away from Earth.

I must have been already asleep when I wrote this post :(
