Pointing north, yay or nay??

Recommended Posts

I've been doing some reading on very old posts (all posts on this scope seem to be old)

About getting better alignment on my skywatcher synscan alt az mount.

And a few people say it should have a level tripod (which I always do)

And also point the mount/scope north then power on and go through the setup and alignment,

Will having the scope facing north make a difference??

Cheers

Earlier versions of the AZ firmware required the mount to start in the level/north position, this requirement was removed some time ago with newer versions of the Synscan firmware. The mount now starts in an unknown position and only begins star alignment once the first alignment star has been centred in the eyepiece and accepted.
