AllSky with Altair Camera

I'm thinking about using one of my Altair Astro Cameras for an AllSky project.  Preferably I'd like to run it 24/7 from a Raspberry Pi but can't find any suitable software.  The AllSkEye software looks really good but I can't dedicate a Windows PC to one task.  Thomas Jacquin's Allsky for the Pi is basically what I'm looking for but it only runs on ASI cameras.

Can anyone recommend a good Raspberry Pi solution with Altair support?  I can run my cameras under Indi without any issues but again I can't find an Indi AllSky solution either.

If you have a Pi, why not install the AllSky software & give it a go, the ASI cameras 'tested' cover a wide range, so I suspect your Altair cameras will work ok....

The ASI cameras have a completely different interface from the Altair ones, so I don't see an obvious reason to assume they'd work.

Actually I recall that there is an Altair SDK for the RPi so it could be done for some cameras (and I may well do exactly that this year).  Unfortunately however Altair don't seem to want to keep the ARM version up-to-date with the SDK available for 64-bit Intel MacOS and Linux environments.  No idea why, but in the past they've told me that they just don't support it.  That doesn't mean it isn't possible however, given a little work.

There is a separate settings section in the list of adjustments in AllSkEye for both ZWO and Altair cameras. It's best to check with Mike, though, on his site.

Hello!

As has been mentioned above, the ASI and Altair SDK's are completely different and I would be very surprised if the Thomas' Rpi software would work with Altair cameras. AllSkEye does work with both camera brands but needs a Windows computer which was ruled out by the OP in the first post. I don't think there are (or am not aware of) any dedicated all sky programs for the Rpi that would support Altair cameras.

I've recently started to add INDIGO support to AllSkEye to allow the image capture to happen on an RPI (still needs a Windows computer though) but found the Altair driver for the RPi a bit hit and miss i.e. it would work for a while and then the camera would hang etc. Maybe it's related to the driver or maybe power supply, never got to the bottom of it.

I presume there is a good reason for using an Altair camera rather than ZWO.  Could someone enlighten me, please?  I would be interested to know.  All varieties of all sky camera interest me as indeed all astro imaging systems.

I think in this case it might just be "because it's what I have".
