Where is the moon filter on a Prinz 660?

Recommended Posts

I got my first telescope yesterday as a christmas present (but my mum had to pick it up later) and we put it together well but I was browsing website and found a guy asking where his moon/sun filters are... I know I don't need a sun filter as it breaks and is generally a bad idea but I will mainly look at the moon and so do I need a moon filter? I found this but can't unscrew it is the filter in here?

Where I think it may be

the Prinz 660 refractor? Lucky as that's reputed to be a very nice vintage scope.

The filters would be 2 separate round components, one moon and one sun, that would screw into the bottom of the eyepiece as banjaxed has said. best to bin the sun one or at least seal it in a bag labelled "never use!". Not sure if this scope uses the older 0.96-inch eyepieces, in which case it may be hard to source replacements if they are missing, but IIRC you can mod the focuser to work with 1.25-inch EP's which makes obtaining better EP's a lot easier.

You don't actually need a moon filter to observe the moon. Some folks find that they like to use one and some folks don't. It's not mandatory.

Do throw the sun filter away if you find it - they are very dangerous.

Otherwise, hope you enjoy the scope !

i agree and would even say break the sun filter and throw it away

if u bag it and even if you know not too use it what if your kids use it one day when you are not around. Maybe u may sell that scope in future and they wont know not to use it

what if u pass it on to someone else it not worth the risk someone else not knowing it and using it
