Leaky Tardis Observatory

The return of Doctor Who reminded me that I really must fix the leaky roof on my Tardis Observatory.

Here I am painting gloopy bitumen paint all over it today. The roof really needs a redesign to direct the rain outwards as it's getting alarmingly damp inside.

Just be careful as it might just disappear while you paint it if the Dr. is home!

Have you looked at pond liner rather than bitumen and roof felt?
It is now very much accepted by a lot of people.

My (albeit sloping roof) observatory has been in place since early 2008 and the roof is still sound.
Should I have said this with storm Dennis on the way?

Tar based, roofing felt is a known solar absorber, heavy and with a limited lifetime.
Rubber pond liner is usually said to be good for half a lifetime.
I have a dome skirt of the heaviest rubber liner I could find online to stop the rain blowing in.
Somebody ought to check the temperature of pond liner when directly exposed to the sun.
First find some sunshine!

Thanks, David, but the roofing felt itself doesn't leak. It's the joins, due to the fiddly roof design. So pond liner would have the same problem.

It seems to be dry-ish inside now, though. Most of the rain now comes in through the door, when it's windy!

It probably leaks because it is bigger on the inside than the outside.....

Does the door have a rebated join on closure?

You need a force field around the door to keep the rain out.  If you have sufficient power, of course... 😁

Sorry for the flippant remark but you started it by building a TARDIS 😀  Wonderful idea and build though.
