Attaching, 72ED to Nikon DSLR

Recommended Posts

Hello wise People of SWR.

I just got my first real scope, the Starwave 72ed.

I want to connect it to my Nikon d610 but am having trouble getting the assembly right.

I have mix of extension tubes etc. but the way I have it in the pic below looks completely wrong. (Even though I achieved focus this way)

Can someone please help?!

I also use the skywatcher 72ed with my Nikon d3300 and I only use an M42 adapter to screw into the camera and an m42 to 2inch adapter that goes into an extension tube(the same as the one on the left in your first picture). With this setup I am able to reach focus.

I struggled with this one too and here is what I ended up with (sorry for the poor image quality)...

From left to right:

ED72 -> Astro Essentials SW ED72 to M48 adapter (to get rid of that god awful SW eyepiece holder) -> OVL Field Flattener (threaded to adapter) -> M42 to M48 step-up ring (not visible) -> DSLR to M48 ring adapter. All threaded from tube to camera to avoid flexure, only thing I missed was a camera rotator for easier framing.
