Skywatcher GTi Wifi Upgrade?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I seem to remember a couple of hacks made to the Skywatcher Gti Wifi mount. I've tried searching but couldn't find the thread on here. Basically, the dovetail clamp can be upgraded to feel more secure, and also a counter weight is available to buy? Does this ring any bells. I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the direction of where to obtain these parts?

Thanks

Hi,

Yes, FLO do the saddle upgrade https://www.firstlightoptics.com/adm-replacement-saddles/adm-dual-dovetail-adaptor-for-az-gti.html

If you want to use a counterweight then the bar from an EQ1 will work, but skywatcher don't sell them separately.  If you want to go EQ then you'll need a wedge such as the one for the star adventurer https://www.firstlightoptics.com/skywatcher-star-adventurer/skywatcher-star-adventurer-equatorial-wedge-white.html .

Also, there's a firmware update from skywatcher which turns the control for the mount to right arm dual az/eq control  http://skywatcher.com/download/software/motor-control-firmware/

Bought this AZ-GTI specific counterweight bar from Amazon and it is absolutely perfect! I also bought the ADM dual saddle mount as well which arrived from High Point Scientific yesterday and will be installing today. Although the Star Adventure wedge works it is not the best for polar alignment when operating in EQ mode so I will be trying the William Optics wedge they make for the iOptron SkyGuider which is currently on backorder.
