Tripods smaller than the EQ5.

Is there a tripod still available that was smaller than the EQ5. I once owned a tripod that had 25 mm steel legs. The bottom legs would push into the top legs just like the EQ5 tripod. I was able to attach an AZ4 mount because there was a screw under the top bracket. It also had securing straps that would you could attach a triangle for eyepieces.

I would really like to buy one if they were still available.

That's only 1 inch diameter,  I would not use a tripod that small on a eq5. I kinda dislike how almost all mounts come with 1.75 tripods now instead of the 2 inch like before, altho 1.75 is ok I guess.

1 inch tripod comes with the smaller cheaper scopes/mounts but again I would  not use those or did u mean smaller eq mount than eq5?

A cg4? Eq3-2

By the way the eq5 comes/came with many tripods.

First was the aluminium legs

Then was 1.5 steel legs

Then 2 steel legs

Now 1.75 steel legs

I passed on 2 mounts that came with 1.5 steel legs. Those eq version are older like the 2nd generation ones.

I have one of the older Skywatcher steel tube tripods which has  1.5 inch diameter legs. The lower section is about 1 inch in diameter. It's quite sturdy - much better than the aluminum tripods.

Its the one under the AZ-4 in this photo:

Thanks. That's the one. I made a mistake saying that it was an inch in diameter.

Any idea where I could buy one?.

How would I correctly describe it.

I think these were used on the early HEQ5 mounts. Not sure that they are available new :icon_scratch:

A "wanted" advert on UK Astro Buy & Sell might be worth a try.

Ofcourse there are smaller mounts. Anyone know the AVX's mount weight?

Mount weights:

Advanced VX Mount (AVX) ...

CG-5 EQ ... 2 inch steel

CG-4 EQ ... 12.5 lbs.

CG-3 EQ ... 7.4 lbs.

CG-2 EQ ... 7.4 lbs.

EQ-1 ...
