Although I've already mentioned this scope in the Bresser bins post, I think it deserves a post of its own.

From 15th Dec, Lidl are again selling the Bresser Skylux 70/700 for 58.70, a slight increase since the last time. As this is the scope which brought me back to observational astronomy after several years, I have a soft spot for it.

Like the bins, the quality can be variable and some bits are a bit plasticy, as you would expect for a scope at this price. but its certainly worth considering if you are in the market for a cheap starter scope.

If you Google Lidl Skylux, you will find many websites dedicated to improving it, although they are usually in German, which Google can translate.

Here are links to a couple of usefull English sites, one from Maurice Gavin and one from

Jim Easterbrook. Bear in mind that the spec might have changed since they were written.

I must admit that I did not study the mount in the photo very carefully, but simply assumed it was the usual EQ2-3 clone.

Further study suggests you may be right about it being an AZ, although it does feature slow motion controls, and does not look like the usual AZ mounts in the Bresser range.

Anyway, apologies if I have misled anyone.
