Anybody Playing Tonight?

Looks like a lot of thin high cloud here too, CO is saying 90-100% at various points. Just been out to turn on the heat pad under the Telegizmos cover and couldn't tell how much cloud there might be as it's that time of day when the sky becomes featureless.

Crystal clear hear, had a quick peep outside during halftime (Liv v Spurs). Listening to the second half from the observatory...

I have a 'full house' of red according to Clear Outside, but it looks like just thin, high cloud at the moment. I'll keep an eye on the conditions this evening.

Regards, Mike.

Ah, yes, of course... We're getting to that time of year.

There were bangs last night after the wind dropped, and I can smell firework smoke.

I just went out and could see a few stars but also a lot of high cloud. High cloud catched the LP from Weymouth and Bridport, appearing bright, while low cloud is dark.

I hate fireworks!!!  With a passion!  They frighten the animals, disturb people and and frighten people with thatched roofs to death!!!  How explosives can be allowed on public sale I really don't know!!  I'll stop now...  /rant

Think fireworks should only be allowed for properly put on public displays and only on certain nights. They should ban the sale of fireworks to the public.  Does this count as a rant?

I think things may be starting to head in that general direction.  I get the impression that fewer places want to sell fireworks these days.  Thinking about the health and safety and insurance aspects and the issues over age verification I imagine it must be a bit of a nightmare for businesses selling to the public.

Diwali celebrations kicking off in the distance, but nothing too major. Most of the big displays round here are going to be on the 2nd. No issue with responsibly-done fireworks (we set off a big pile every New Year's Eve at midnight, but in the middle of nowhere on a farm ~5mi from anyone else and with the animals all at a safe distance), but you do get some nutters letting off big stuff in urban environments...

Kicked off a halfhearted set of exposures but I have an early start tomorrow so not 100% sure how long I'll have to image. Trying the cocoon nebula for starters, LRGB. Everything seems to be working, though my cheap-as-chips IP camera appears to have given up the ghost, which is making my trial of the INDI alignment subsystem a bit more nerve-wracking. Worked much better than eqmod out of the gate, though - did 3 random plate solves and it got within about 15 arcseconds of the target (a good 20 degrees off) on first slew.

Quite nice here tonight. Scope set up as I've done on two previous occasions over the past few days, only to have to bring it back in again. 3rd time lucky I hope

I had a look out the front and could see stars but not bright, and no MW. Will have a look out the back in a mo to see if it's worth opening up. Dew looks to be heavy tonight, so run those heaters!

It's very clear here but forecast says it'll only last a couple of hours, depending on where the fireworks are coming from will probably be a factor too, probably have to give it a go and see how it is.

Everything seems to still work so just starting a run on NGC7000 to test it all.

Sainsbury's have stopped selling them this year, first of many I hope.

Making people go to a specialist or at least somewhere that the people selling can advise on the right things to get is probably a good thing. Our local motorists discount place always sell them but are very clued in on all the various things they sell and do ask about your safety distances etc...

Not 100% convinced of the transparency tonight. Getting some okay frames but guiding is a bit hit-and-miss, managing around 1.2" RMS total error, should be more 0.8"ish...
