APT "Live VIew" Problems.

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

This evening/morning I am having some problems getting my unmodified canon 600d to live view via apt. One hell of a palaver trying to get focused. Has any one suffered similar problems? Was working fine yesterday, tonight a bit of a disaster all round. I am running the feed for the guide camera down the same USB cable via a non powered hub, the camera works fine during the data gathering phase but no dam preview. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

hi,

i have had similar problems with my ASI1600, no response in live view and images weren't loading from the camera to the PC, so actually it was worse.

I was running an extra camera in BackyardEOS that night, and someone suggested checking PHD2, and sure enough the ASI1600 was selected as guide cam (?) .

So i thought the problem was fixed when i started yesterday, and at first it was, until the ASI1600 decided otherwise, i was stuck again, so in frustration i yanked the USB cable out, plugged it back in and everything returned to normal and managed to get almost 5 hours of data last night 🤗

Hope this works for you too, or maybe you can try a different USB port.

I certainly hope that was the last of it.

Miguel,

Many thanks for the prompt reply, I will endeavour to do some port juggling next time we get a clear night here in my part of the UK.  As you pointed out not being able to see a live image is frustrating beyond belief. I even got to the stage where I took the camera off the rig and took some photos of the dog to prove to myself the thing was still working.

Thanks for the advice but as I have nearly gone around the clock the last 24 hours I think experimentation must end and my bed awaits.

Thanks again

K

You can test this all out during the day, you don't have to wait for a clear night.

In any case you can unplug the guidecam while you're focusing the Canon with LiveView and see if that works.

Check the power settings on the USB port in Device Manager.

Probably need a powered hub as it works some days, not others.

Michael, thanks for the reply and suggestions. Had the rig running this afternoon and I think I have narrowed it down to a "sloppy" connection on Lynx Astro dew controller that has an auxiliary power supply for DSLR cameras.  Running off internal batteries presents no problems, neither does using a propriety dummy battery from a power pack. Yet to get the meter out for a definitive answer but think I am in the parish, so-to-speak. The give away was the reluctance of the camera screen to stay on using the aforementioned lynx power supply.

Having upgraded from canon 1000D to Nikon D5300  how do users of the 5300 find it for Astro I will be using with APT , and how do you take flats as I can’t use Av mode as there is nothing in tools menu to choose no lens ,  do you use in manual mode  and look at histogram ? .

I use the Celestron AVX mount and I also use Astrophotography Tool when imaging.
When I start my imaging session I will undertake a two star alignment then move to my target and THEN platesolve to ensure I have the object centred.
My question is do I need to bother with two star alignment (or any other Celestron alignment for that matter)?
My thought would be to Polar align then take a shot of Polaris and plate solve this, sync the result to the mount then “Goto” from there. The only issue I have is when you switch the mount on and enter time/date etc it asks you to do a star alignment so how do I ignore this or do I do just that, ignore it!
      Sorry for the rambling question.

      Hi,
I am at the moment trying to set up "Dithering" on my APT.
I am presently using a Canon 600D, with Orion ED80 Refractor, mounted on my NEQ6PRO.
Please note, I have not yet progressed to Guiding - NO GUIDING
Do I basically select "APT Dithering" and maybe leave all the other settings at Default?
Most grateful if anyone can let be know which settings I might need to adjust, and to what values.
Finding it all a little bit confusing !
      Many Thanks
      Steve
