Building Run-Off Roof Obs in NZ

As some of you may know, since I'm in NZ until end of March 2009, I've joined the local Nelson Astronomical Society. Yesterday a few of us helped one of the members, Paul, to erect a run-off roof obs. that had been previously owned by one of the members.

Stunning location out in the country. Good dark site. As it's only a 5 minute drive from where I'm staying I look forward to being able to use it. Paul has a 12" 'push-to' dob., but wants to get an EQ mount and start imaging.

A few pics attached of the construction. It was a great afternoon for the work. It should be up and running in the next week or so. Perhaps the door to the obs. will get a lick of paint before then!

Livining in the concrete jungle that is London practically my whole life, it's hard for me to imagine places like this exist, thanks for the pics.

You can get places like this with 1+ acres and a 3 bed house, 10 minutes from the city (even in 'rush hour') for about 170,000 UK pounds.
