Nifty fifty Cygnus widefield HaRGB

Recommended Posts

Last week, I didn't know what else to shoot with my Samyang 135mm f2 lens and I remembered that I had a RGB photo of the Cygnus region shot with a 50mm f1.8 lens.

I decided to try and shoot some Ha with the same lens to see if there's an improvement.

Very glad I did. I really like the outcome.

I hope you like it too.

RGB - 10x600sec ISO800, IDAS LPS-D1 CLIP filter

Ha - 36x300sec ISO1600, Astronomik 6nm Ha clip in filter

Very nice.  I have a nifty 50 lens, but whenever I use it I get elongated stars (coma) around the edges, though edge meaning graduating out from centre.  How do you avoid that?

Thanks Carole. I never had problems with mine but I never used it opened wider than f4.

Super addition to your image.

but what was the camera device please?

Sorry, I forgot to say it. 😁

I shot the RGB with a modified canon 600D and the Ha with a modified canon 700d.

The RGB was shot under bortle 4 skies and the Ha in my back garden, bortle 6.

The lens was stopped down to f4 in both cases.

Thank you.

I stop all my Canon lenses down to f4 as well even the 85mm f1.8.

Yes, most of the canon lenses need it. The samyang 135mm performs very well at f2.8. A while ago I borrowed a canon 135mm and a canon 200mm from a friend to see how they are but when I've seen the results people get with the samyang 135mm f2, I set my mind on it and kept an eye on fleabay until I found an affordable one.
