MOON GOES THROUGH BEEHIVE, TOMORROW EVENING - SATURDAY

Recommended Posts

Just a reminder, it should be a nice wide-field spectacle.  The Moon passes through the Southern parts o the cluster from around 8.30 pm until midnight.  There is a good article with more details on page 64 of the April edition of Astronomy Now, including details of some of the occultations.  I haven't checked yet, but I presume some will also be listed in the BAA Handbook.  Interestingly, Sky at Night magazine never even gave the event a mention.   It will be nice through a refractor with an eyepiece giving a 2 - 3 inch field which will encompass the whole thing.  Though it is clearly visible in binoculars, larger apertures will show up the stars better in the vicinity of the Moon, so I'll be using my Asto-Tech 102ED with my 17.5 mm Morpheus, or possibly 24 mm Hyperion.  I'll also be using my two inch right angle erect image prism - I like to watch such events with the 'correct' orientation .

Clear skies, Paul
