Black Country astronomy...?

I'm in the Black Country and considering checking out some astronomical societies.

I know that Wolverhampton and Walsall have societies, as does Aston University, but I haven't found any others in the area.

Has anyone been to any of their meetings?

What's the welcome like?

Would all their expert chit-chat be lost on a beginner?
