I’ve just bought a Skywatcher EQ6-R Pro. I’m trying to drive it from Stellarium using EQMOD but I’m running into a problem I haven’t the experience to solve.
This is my set up:
Windows 7 Laptop > 10m active USB 3.0 cable > 4 port powered Atolla USB 3.0 hub > Lynx Astro EQMOD cable > Mount (plugged directly into hand control socket)
When I first connected the mount to the laptop (a 2015 Dell Inspiron) Windows 7 searched for a serial/USB driver and installed it on COM 8 (according to Device Manager).
In Stellarium I created a profile for the mount but it wouldn’t autodetect the COM port. So I manually set it to 8.
When I try to connect to the mount it sits for a while and then tells me the connection has timed out.
Anyone have any suggestions as to where I should start to try and get the connection sorted please? Thanks.
I'm looking at acquiring my first goto mount and have decided on the Sky-Watcher EQ5 PRO Go-To. Stock seems to be low everywhere at the moment so I'm keeping my eyes peeled.
I have a few questions regarding alignment.
Although I will be taking the mount "out-and-about" I will mostly be using the EQ5 on my balcony at home; this will make alignment with polaris impossible. I'm relived to see the EQ5 allowas bright star alignment (with the scope beginning at north) which is great for the location.
My question is; am I able to choose which bright stars the mount will align with? for example, if the mount asks me to confirm the position of a star I cant see at all from the balcony, can I choose stars that are visible from my side of the building?
I'm very new to astrophotography and would like to be prepared before splashing out!
I've just blown all my pocket money on a Rowan belted HEQ5 Pro, so it's time to move on my trusty EQ5 GOTO, before my wife spots 2 tripods in my shed 😉
I'm sure everyone knows these mounts, but just to say that it's in full working order, with just the usual wear marks here and there, and a few marker pen lines for Home and counterweight positions.
Comes with 12V power lead and car cigarette plug, and sync lead with USB adapter to let you upgrade the firmware on the Synscan handset. It's currently at 4.39.05, which was the latest version a couple of months ago. There are 2 x 5kg counterweights as well.
I still have the boxes for my HEQ5, so I can courier it within mainland UK included in the price. If you live elsewhere, we can work out a price.
Yours for a sensible £350 - a new one will cost you around £575 from most of the usual retailers. Paypal Gift or Bank Transfer most welcome
Thanks for looking
