My self design & build observatory

Hi everybody - I wanted to share my experience of designing and building my own observatory. It is a unique octagonal design and offers pros and cons to more common designs often utilised by the amateur community. Great design and achievement.  I have one of the Astrofest "off the shelf" PODs.  It's great having all the kit ready to image and not having to put it away afterwards.

Excellent design! 

For several years I drew house plans and I find your OBSY quite well thought through.

I really like the way only the area you are viewing is open, preventing unwanted light from the surrounding area.

Nice piece of work.  Well done.  If I had to build an observatory without a roll-off roof it's the sort of design I might well use myself.

Very nice result.

I built a similar (but different) Octodome back in the early 80's. Worked well and met my needs at the time.
