clavius processing, which is best?

Hi,

No good weather, moon too low.. So reprocessing some images. Below a couple of versions of Clavius. Which one do you prefer, and why, or why not ?

Images taken with CFF 300 f/20 ASI174 with Baader IR685.

For me it would be a 50% mix of 1 and 2.  Fabulous detail.

The middle one for me, first one is too dark and the last one is too contrasty.

Nice images Wouter. I'm going to spoil the consistency in responses... I agree that the middle one is probably the best in terms of clarity of detail; but aesthetically I prefer the first one; the lower overall brightness level and the contrast appeal to me - perhaps because it's reminiscent of some of the Apollo imagery. The bottom one seems overly processed.

Going to really kick it off, number 3 for me but I always have a tendency to over process my moon shots

Middle one for me. Better contrast than the first and more detail in the shadows of the third.  Lovely image!

As an out-and-out lunar processing ignoramus, I like 3 as it has more 'pop'.

This almost certainly means it isn't the best one... ?

Thanks everybody for the comments already. Guess I'll give it another go. I personally believe all three have something going for them. Maybe need to find a way of getting the best out of all three in one image.

I think you have proved that there is no one 'right' version - fine-tuning an excellent image is always down to personal taste.

Aboslutely true... 

I'm not very long into lunar imaging, only a little over a year, so still trying to improve myself and the processing.

I’m with number two too - there’s never a simple answer as it’s usually down to personal taste, but whatever, there is superb data in there, no doubt.

The three of them are fine images, but I also would go with the second one, it just seems more natural.

Not much to choose between the 2nd and 3rd images for both very nice.

Middle one: Good detail, smooth surface and no artifacts, they were creeping into the third image.
