Very excited 44 year old XT8 owner greetings

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

44 year old astronomy and physics nut since birth here. I studied Physics at university with the goal of working at CERN, but my life path took me into the 3D animation/FX route.

I have been a LONG time lurker here and after having spent many years enjoying this wonderful community, i finally bought my first real telescope. An Orion XT8. I had my first night out with it tonight and was blown away by how clear the views were. The Orion Nebula looked gorgeous, and i was very happy, even if my wife walked away from the eyepiece unimpressed...I think she was expecting Hubble type views. I tried to explain that its not always about what it looks like, but what is being observed that makes it cool.

Anyway, i hope to become an active member very quickly and look forward to getting to know you guys better this year.

That's it, just wanted to say hello.

Cheers

M

A very warm welcome to SGL, as for your wife's reaction to M42, when i showed my wife Mars for the first time, she replied "i could have drawn you an orange dot for a lot cheaper" lol.

I was an excited 44 year old once also! Ive been excited ever since I was eighteen and still am now I'm 57. Time Flies!!

My wife thinks I'm a bit bonkers and humours me. She thinks I'm still a teenager in my head. She's right, and I'm glad I've never grown up!

Welcome aboard M. You'll love it here! :icon_biggrin:

Welcome ! Also a Physics graduate - I reckon it helps me to be even more gobsmacked when thinking of what I am looking at.

I have learnt loads already from the SGL forums, so dive in.

Welcome. I too was a long time lurker before I joined. Never regretted it. You'll find the SGL members to be the most helpful, not to mention patient, amateur astronomers out there.
