Natural charcoal sketch of the H alpha sun on mould-made paper, 2019-02-13

Dear all,

this morning, the mid-range and high clouds vanished for a bit more than an hour. Our terrace was still in shadow, so I carried the telescope to a sunny spell in our courtyard.

So I could do a natural charcoal sketch of the sun with a wonderful faint but pretty large prominence. For that and some other prominences, I used a tiny rubber 'brush' tool to catch the faint character on paper.

Here's the result:

Dear all,

thanks for the great feedback and all of the likes! ?

Actually today, I could observe the sun again (between 1100 and 1515 CET) and was surprised by the changes of prominences: The ones from the left side of yesterday's sketch were all gone! And on the right side a new one has appeared. I just did quick pencil sketches in my observation handbook:

At quarter past three this afternoon, the prominence (which started as a christmas tree) looked a bit like Don Quijote on his horse ?:

Let's see what will have changed tomorrow. Weather forecast promises up to 10 hours of sunshine tomorrow and on Saturday.

Is this charcoal that you make yourself?

No, this is just purchased drawing charcoal sticks (I think made from vine branches).

Clear - and sunny - skies to all of you!
