Valentine's Day clear skies

After weeks of cloudy skies, and a poor forecast going forward, I noticed that Thursday is looking clear. Great I thought, chatted to Gavstar about meeting up for a session locally, and then gently broached the subject with my dear lady wife.

That's when my fatal mistake became clear, and I was reminded ever so politely that it was Valentine's Day and I had other priorities. DOH!

Isn't life annoying sometimes? Will any of you manage to grab some clear skies?

Most fortunate in my case, I realised before opening my mouth to Mrs W.

You could try a romantic meal under the stars but might be hard to sell in the near freezing temperatures, and how do you explain the scope being set up??

Oh how annoying. Im a single man so i dont have that problem. But its always clear when i have to get up early for work the next day.

Get home early, set up, get imaging gear running, go inside, cook candle lit meal for two.   When SWIMBO goes to bed, check on scope and make list of repairs. ????

We do not celebrate Valentine’s Day. I’m going to a wine tasting and Mrs 73 will be looking after the kids. The devil’s orb will be screwing up observing anyway.

Early in our relationship, I posed the question “in these days of equality, why is it always the gentleman who has to buy the flowers, arrange and then pay for a swanky meal?” Mrs 73 agreed. On the morning of the 14th Feb, I forgot and Mrs 73 handed over a card and an empty box which had contained some very expensive chocolates - apparently hunger had got the better of her at the wrapping stage. We decided that being told when to appreciate each other was a rather odd  idea and opted out of the whole thing!

Same thing for me on the 4th of Feb - best looking night in ages... but also our wedding anniversary!  The scope - with its recently cleaned mirror - stayed put.  For once I'm kinda thankful that it is looking cloudy on the 14th.  I'm itching to get that mirror dirty again

Like the 73s, Mrs F and I have never done Valentine's Day.  Partly because it seems to be turning into just another consumerist celebration and partly because it's close to my own birthday.

Though I am thinking about skipping my birthday this year, too.  I've had quite a few now and I've pretty much got the hang of them.  I'm coming to the opinion that having one every year is maybe just a touch excessive.  I reckon I might copy the Olympics and just have one every four years instead.

This has always struck me as the weirdest of the commercialised holidays. Do people really need an excuse to do something romantic with/for the person they say they love? When "involved" I have always tried to be a bit more spontaneous ... although I learned early on that spontaneity can require an awful lot of preparation! I once organised a delivery of seven (not six) roses on the seven-week anniversary (get it now?) of our first date. Have you any idea how difficult it is to get a florist to deliver seven (not six) roses? Some won't even let you pay for nine (which they consider to be an acceptable number), but only deliver seven.

Yep, my wife and I appreciate each other and never need reminding, if she wanst to do something that day then fine but we don' do it because commercially you feel a need to, I regularly buy my wife flowers, chocolates and presents, as for Astronomy that night, I have to forget it until my new mount arrives ?

SWMBO doesn't believe in Valentine's day, nor do I. She does however enjoy gazing up at the night sky, so if it's clear we may have an evening underneath the stars.

I think Valentine's Day is an absolute money making swizz tbh. It's all about money, the retailers couldn't care less about your relationship with your OH.

I don't need one day a yr to tell someone that I love them. I tell them everyday.

Valentine's is nothing but a money spinner. Lidl are selling a single red rose for 13 euro.

We agreed, very early in our relationship, Valentines day is ( edited) not for us

As said above, we look after each other, show we care and do care for each other. Why go waste good money on dinning out at inflated prices when really we would rather be doing other things. ( especially on clear nights) We can go out the next night when prices become sensible again   Its also a Friday so no work the next day lol.

Can't trust those forecasters anyway the bit of clear sky that's supposed to be coming our way seems to be stuck over Olly.

Tomorrow night, me and Lorna are having chicken fajitas for dinner. Might light a candle.

She's a woman after my own heart. Hates flowers, cards, chocolate, etc.

Loves Star Wars, the night sky and dogs.
