FF/FR for AltairAstro ED70.. will this work?

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I'm saving for a FF for my AA ED70. Will the OVL 0.8 work ok?. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/reducersflatteners/ovl-field-flattener.html

The numbers look right!. but I'm unsure if the focus path will be effected to much?. I also like that its a flattner without focal reduction. I also like the price :). I can see AA offer a similar one too https://www.altairastro.com/lightwave-1.0x-field-flattener-for-f5.5-to-f6.25-refractors.html

I know theres a dedicated FF/Reducer from AA https://www.altairastro.com/canon-dslr-0.8x-reducer-flattener-kit-for-starwave-70ed-f6-refractor.html

And the AA one is pricey!

Thanks Rob

Hi Rob

As you say, the first item you pointed to is just a flattener. Only the third one is a 0.8x reducer/flattener. I have a Lightwave 0.8x reducer on an f6 80mm and which seems to work fine though I've not tried it with a dslr or with an osc. I think the third item is the same reducer/flattener as the lightwave but includes the dslr fitting kit.

Thanks Guys,

I'm taken with just the Flattener because I want to experiment with alternative imaging, and keep the scope at F6. It was just worried about bringing to focus with the DSLR in/out. I'm hoping this should not change the racking too much?.

After a little more googling it appears another has been using the https://www.altairastro.com/lightwave-1.0x-field-flattener-for-f5.5-to-f6.25-refractors.html

As I'm going to be DSLR only I think this might be the one I'm going for. The EOS mating ring also provides the 10mm spacing of the 55mm required. So should be plug n play!
