Which OTA for planetary imaging/visual

Recommended Posts

We've decided on our imaging setup for DSO's, but we'd also like a scope for planetary visual and imaging, we've upted for the sw esprit ed100 for imaging but not sure it would be up to the job for planetary due to the shortish focal length. Any advice on a scope for planetary/lunar visuals imaging and recording, my partner loves the up close vids image's of this subject and wants to do this, the reason were looking for a 2nd scope.

Any advice and sample images/ vids is appreciated.

Thankyou

If you look in the 'Planetary Imaging' section of the forum, you will see what kind of telescopes are most used for this task.  A long focal length and largish aperture are indicated, and despite the griping about the size of the central obstruction, a SCT is a popular choice.

As @happy-katsays, there isn’t much to look at for a few years. So be sure you are happy with where the targets are placed before investing. The 9.25 SCT I have had since 2007 is a good option for observing/imaging planets. 2.3m focal length in native form or up to 5m with the right chip/powermate combination.
