The largest galaxy in the image on the right is NGC 2207 and the smallest on the left is IC 2163. Strong tidal forces of IC 2163 have distorted the shape by throwing the stars and gas into long ribbons stretching out one hundred thousand light years towards the right edge of the image.

NGC 2207 and IC 2163 are a pair of spiral galaxies interacting about 80 million light-years away in the constellation Canis Major. Both galaxies were discovered by John Herschel in 1835.
