Lens pens are basly named. They're really soft brushes for getting dust off eyepieces.

They are for cleaning lenses and comprise of a carbon pad at one end and a brush at the other. They come in 2 sizes, standard and mini for smaller lenses.

My partner for Christmas bought me a lovely padded eyepeice bum bag, everything will fit and is perfect for keeping on me while observing I will keep silica bags in it to help keep it dry.

Like others said, lens pen has a soft brush and a microfibre pad for cleaning optics. While it's a nice gadget, I would not recommend it because it's a dry contact cleaning method.

If you need to clean your eyepiece, first try a air blower. If you can't dislodge it, then you should consider wet clean method such as Baader fluid + thick lens tissue. Dry contact cleaning methods, such as dry microfibre cloth and lens pen, are mostly likely to scratch your optics.

I would have thought the same, but the LensPen actually works brilliantly. Just make sure you have Hurricane Blowed the lens first. I've tried with liquid and lens paper and have never been happy with the result. Has always left streaks. The LensPen, I think, works soooo much better. Gentle circles from the centre out leaves your lenses like new!

Edit: make sure you hurricane blow your lenses first and then soft brush them before using a LensPen, otherwise yes, you will scratch your optics!

So many pages of EP pornography! Treated myself to a Maplins case today, as my Vixen NPL 30mm has nowhere to live. The downside of that birthday present was to highlight how naff my stock pieces are so a 4mm Vixen NPL is being ordered in the morning.

People like you all need to get help.....or, donate all your EP's to me, we'll call it therapy!!

how do you find these eyepieces zillah. I am only interested in curiosity ad Vixen have a good name and these are well priced. Btw you will notice a huge difference between your new 4 and the 30 in eye relief, thats my only thing with high mag plossl eyepieces.

Finally got my Maplins case and yes, I went a bit crazy over Xmas and now have a nice little collection of 82° Explore Scientific Eyepieces I have yet to go outside with these new EP's as of yet, I cannot wait to give them a run!

Got other little bits in there...some filters (UHC / Moon & Neodymium), Baader x2.5 Barlow etc.

Been resisting adding to this thread for months, this is my case for travelling somewhere dark (and dry ) thought it would be more interesting having a nice set of eyepieces than the interest the bank was paying on my money. Also found a use for those Tele Vue stickers.

Just filled my newly bought water resistant case today. My eps look nicer with case than without case. Lol. I'm so happy with this case.

I am still in the process of building up my eyepiece case but in the mean time this is my lens case. Can't wait to build up a good EP case!
