Yes I read you had a good night and your report on the Trapezium and the elusive Pup. Do you think your chances of resolving the Pup with the ED103 are bettered by binoviewing? It would make sense, I've only used my binos on luna and planetary so far and they definitely help in resolving finer detail IMO.

I am big fan of binoviewing but for last night, single Orthos did the business, where the bino failed.

Yes, I prefer single eyepieces for doubles too.

My newly refined 2” eyepiece case, primarily for the Dob.

I’ve replaced Ethos 21 with Nagler 22 and Ethos 3.7 with ES 2” Extender.

Using the Extender with Paracorr and Ethos 8 and 6 gives me magnifications of x357 and x456 respectively and a minimum exit pupil of 0.5mm 👍

Im tempted to try a 22mm nagler with my dob. What did you prefer over the 21E?

Hi,

For me it came down to these factors:

  • The 100 degree view works well for me on 13E downwards, but I didn’t it so easy to use on the 21E. The Nagler 22mm works much better for me in this respect.
  • The 21E is a heavy beast, which I can manage on the Dob (with a counterweight), but it’s just so much easier with the Nagler. It’s also usable on my refractors and Mewlon 180

Both are superb eyepieces, but I prefer te ergonomics of the Nagler 👍

Cheers, Gary

As I’ve been slightly thinning down my eyepiece collection to form three separate sets… I’ve also now refined my 1.25” set too.

A set of Pentax XWs from 20mm to 3.5mm, Masuyama 16mm,  ES 2x Extender and a couple of filters 👍

I'm in the UK for a bit so lack of customs charges has tempted me to new purchases!

WO saddle for fitting to my AZ-GTi (which it turns out might be a challenge), UHC filter to take advantage of darker skies while I'm here, and couldn't resist a couple more BSTs for travel purposes!

You could make your own puck for fitting the saddle to the AZ-GTi.

I love it! Shame I don't have a lathe :)

That said, I do have a puck already because I was using the ADM dual fit mini saddle (the one that also accepts losmandy). It's fine, but I will never use losmandy on the AZ-GTi and a smaller form factor like the WO would mean the mount will fit better in my travel case.

I had stupidly assumed that the holes/slots on the WO would be the same as the ADM but they are not, so I will have to drill and tap the puck for the WO. Which is also a challenge because I have neither taps nor a drill press!

One last addition to this case, looks pretty full now. Need to change the foam and get them seated better but they are quite snug when the lid is shut.

2.5mm TOE is the final addition, looking forward to giving it a go.

3.4mm HR looks alone ... You need a 3.3mm to support it 😈

This should now be my 2” eyepiece case going forward… primarily for use in the 10” Dob and Mewlon 180, but may see action in the refractors too 👍

The 21 Ethos has been replaced with 22 Nagler, XW 30 has been joined by XW 40, and the ES 2x 2” Extender is there if needed. I've also decided to retain the Ethos 3.7 SX.

The remaining Ethos and Paracorr II are unchanged.

An Oklop one from @FLO, nice, good value and small, which is what I wanted.
All I need now is an accessory bag to go with it as well.

That’s a nice collection of glass, Alan. And nicely snuggled in the new case 👍🏻

Thank you Jeremy, kind of you to say so.
Having things in cases rather than metal ones has been set off by yourself.

The ever evolving eyepiece case. I can't really imagine needing more. I'm just not a collector and don't feel the need or can justify the cost of crackers priced units. Although I expect a couple will change in the near future.

The Vixen SLV 4mm and BCO 6mm are the latest. They haven't disappointed.

The OVL zoom will likely go. It's not used enough and I've decided zooms are not for me. There's a couple more not in the case on the to-sell list.
