Accuracy of polar scope engraving.

Recommended Posts

My Azeq6 mount is 3 years old and just curious how close to centre of the polar scope bubble is to  the real distance from NCP and were you put polaris. I see Polaris is getting closer to NCP as the years go on.  When I get my mount back from service that includes the polar scope a drift alignment will answer my curiosity but welcome any thoughts on the matter!

It's an approximation.

The new style reticle has several concentric rings and little key showing where in the rings you need to place polaris over the next twenty or so years as it gets closer to the pole.

FWIW according to Sharpcap I can align to rather better than 20 arc-seconds using the polarscope if I do a good job, while its platesolving routine gets me down to less than half an arc-second.
