Widefield Orion

Recommended Posts

Thank you guys. I used a dual camera rig on my eq3.20181107_220944.thumb.jpg.0e91271715fa96a4f5d6f2db33a33953.jpg

The target on my qhy10 + samyang 135mm f2 was the Witch's head but I could only do 10x600sec on that too and being such a faint target I had to stretchit a much as I could and with that I managed to expose a lot of noise. I wish I could shot it from my back garden.LRM_EXPORT_1216907662937555_20181118_210611562.thumb.jpeg.9c64df744a9115834e9e9b3343efdd5f.jpeg

First time I have a proper go at some astro with my nifty fifty lens.

Canon 600d full spectrum, ISO800, 50mm f1.8 lens stopped at f4, 10x600sec guided on my eq3 pro mount.

I love how it came out.

These are the images that I aspire to! Well done! (Sorry for the above repetition, but I don't yet know how to delete a bungled comment once it is started. Something else I have to learn, haha.)

Great shot- hints of the Witch Head showing near Orions foot. You normally need a dark sky site to get that- where did you shoot from?

Thanks.

I noticed the Witch head too. A bit more exposure time would probably make it more visible but who knows when it will be the next time I'll go on a darker site trip.

This one was shot near Eversley in Hampshire under bortle 4 skies.

Love the Witches Head just showing! Brilliant shot

I am off to the Sahara in January and really want to get this one.

Thanks. Sahara should be a brilliant spot for this kind of shots. Looking forward for the result.

Love it.

Orion's beautiful at any angle.

I doubt I'd manage that, too much light pollution. I'll probably flood my sensors with orange and white by about ten seconds at ISO 25 before 10pm. Then the floodlights go off at the playing fields.

I'm sorely tempted to spray the neighbour's garden floodlight which is constantly turning on with stove paint to turn it into a black light. The thing only help burglars.  Special light is black light you see - it doesn't interfere with astronomy ...

That's not bad at all. Definitely has an impact.

Thanks. I'm in bortle 6 too but I have London in th SE, S and a bit of SW which makes it quite difficult.

Hi Emyliano,

I'm a bit late viewing this post. I am in a bortle 5 region. What LP filter did you use to capture the Orion widefield shot ?

John

Hi John. The photo was shot from a bortle 4-5 location. I live under bortle 6 skies but I travel to darker places whenever I get the chance. I use the IDAS LPS-D1 filters to combat the light pollution. They are pretty good.

Thanks for the heads up on the filter Emil, will have to get one, I have heard a lot of good things about this filter.
