The disappointment we felt at the Cloud spoiled Eclipse in no way impacted on Our
enjoyment of the occasion. The farm people who permitted the use of their land to camp on
were so friendly, and helpful. Also the area was beautiful, and we did much exploring.

We saw the Abrams Tank on Slapton Sands, which stood as a Memorial to the 740 American Troops who died practicing for
the impending D'Day landings in Normandy.   The Germans had wind of the Training place and Time,
And using E-Boats, attacked the landing craft loaded with the Soldiers. They had little chance of survival in the water loaded with much equipment.
A sobering reminder that rather took the edge of the visit.

We did a bit of touring the area, and visited a relative of one the guys who was with us.
The lady had a most beautiful home, and that day was wall to wall sunshine, which showed her magnificent garden
in all it's glory.  The kind soul gave me some Californian Poppy bulbs for my Mrs, and they have been in our garden since.
The Climate must be much better in Devon, as they looked much better there than in Cumbria :icon_biggrin:.
