SGL 2018 Star Party Photography Competition

This year, we thought it might be nice to have a photography competition to see who can take the picture which best captures the essence of a Stargazers Lounge star party. It can be anything. A photo of someone scoffing  down a curry or pig roast, an imager scratching his head trying to get his mount to talk to his guiding camera, absolutely anything (well anything not requiring an R certification). This can include pics, timelapse, sketch, anything. No imaging skills required. Just something to have a bit of fun and maybe brighten up an otherwise cloudy day. The only rule is, it must be taken at the SGL 2018 star party and it must be at Lucksall.

Judges decision is final and might well be bought for the cost of a Jaffa cake or two ;)

As with all imaging competitions, First Light Optics will be supplying  SGL mugs with the winning photos for first, second and third places.

Just add pics to this thread and they'll be judged in the week/s following the star party

Have Fun

Not for the competition necessarily as there are some great pics here already, but thought I'd add this one to show the great turnout for the talks (thanks @PhotoGav and @lunator for your time and expertise, and Chris Millington for a very in depth talk on constellations).  This was Dr Matthew Bothwell who was excellent and I'm sure educated pretty much all of us with camera and other technology that I, for one, never even knew existed.  And a big thanks to @Helen for the great interactive activities which were going and, and very very tempting to join in.  It looked excellent.

Well done all, in particular your efforts in talking louder than the marquee rattled and squeaked :thumbright:

A few shots to add to the SGL SP2018 album:

Water level rising... at what point is it sensible to scarper??!!

Inspired by Stu’s talk - my first smartphone shot ‘through the eyepiece’:

Reports of thieving from the site are flooding in this year:

‘Scope & Bottle’ (should that be the new name for the marquee pub??!):

The new riverboat restaurant at Lucksall this year:

Finally, there was some star gazing done through Astro Lunartick’s exquisitely made 20” dob - including my first ever view of the Veil Nebula - The Wtches Broom - stunning. Thanks Pete!

Ditto @astrolunartick's dob. The Veil was stunning, as is this amazing instrument.
